Kesler was selected in the first round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft by the Cancucks. He played for the Canucks' AHL affiliate, the Manitoba Moose, where he was named to an AHL All-Star game. Kesler joined the Canucks for the 2005-2006 season, his first full season with the team. He is known for being a two way forward and he won the 2011 Selke Trophy for his defensive skill.
