Adopted:
July 4, 1960
History:
The flag was changed 26 times since the 13-state union adopted it. The 48-star version went unchanged until July 4, 1959 when there was the 49-star version. Then, the 50-star version was adopted on July 4, 1960.
Remarks:
The 50 stars represent the 50 American states and the 13 stripes represent the 13 original colonies. The United States Army Institute of Heraldry has plans for flags with up to 56 stars.
