History of the Ford Mustang: The Ford Mustang was introduced on April 17, 1964. The first model was known as “1964 ½” model. The mustang led the way for a new class of cars known as the “pony car” – performance oriented, sports car-like coupes with long hoods and short rear decks. The Ford Mustang has gone through several transformations to its current fifth generation since its first model.
About the 1965 Mustang: The 1965 Mustang (part of the first generation) was Ford’s most successful vehicle launch since their Model A. Production of the model began on March 9, 1964 in Dearborn, Michigan and it was unveiled to the public on April 17, 1964 at the New York World’s Fair. In the model’s first 18 months, more than 1 million mustangs were built. The engine lineup included a “C-code” with 200 hp, an “A-code” with 225hp and a high performance “K-code” with 271hp. The model was available as a hardtop, convertible or fastback. A number of changes were made from the 1964 model, including the addition of reverse lights (on some models) and the introduction of alternators that replaced generators. Interior features included adjustable driver and passenger seats, an AM Radio and a floor mounted shifter available in multiple colors.
